The Los Angeles Rams have made a super trade with the Tennessee Titans that guarantees them the first-round NFL Draft pick in 2016. Alex Ferguson tries to work out why the deal was made…. The NFL Draft almost guarantees crazy deals as teams swap players and prospects in an attempt to reach the top of the food chain. The Rams have this years No 1 pick after being given it by Tennessee Titans in exchange for their 15th pick, two second-round picks, one third-round pick and their first and third-round picks in 2017. In other words, Rams owner Stan Kroenke has exchanged the house for what could be a franchise quarterback. If the next Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning or John Elway were in the offing, then you could understand the deal. Rams want a new quarterback to complement Todd Gurley The Rams arent too far away from being a good team. Theyve got a great, young running back in Todd Gurley, a freak-like defensive tackle in Aaron Donald and other good young players. But the cupboard for quarterbacks in 2016 certainly isnt as tempting as it was in 2015, when two Heisman Trophy winners went as the first two draft picks. This year, the cupboard is pretty bare. Many seem impressed by California quarterback Jared Goff, but in his final year in college football for the Bears, he didnt produce many excuse me while I stand up and applaud moments.Goff was susceptible to interceptions (he led the Pac-12 Conference with 13). Though he had more than 4,700 passing yards last season, he also had an offense that set him up to throw (a lot). Will he be good enough for the NFL?The scouts will point to his 6ft 4in frame and say yes, but was he worth the deal with the Titans?Alternatively, people love Carson Wentz, the quarterback who wasnt particularly talked about when he was being recruited for colleges. Tennessee Titans Marcus Mariota isnt going anywhere He decided to play his football at FCS powerhouse North Dakota State (NDSU), the equivalent of playing in the Championship in English football compared to the Premier League. Wentzs hands were measured at ten inches in width - an inch bigger than Goffs. Even at FCS level, he was stunningly good.Hes 6ft 6in, a powerful runner (1,028 yards and 13 TDs) and threw the ball excellently (5,115 yards and 45 TDs) in only two years of starting. But will he be able to understand the complex NFL offensive schemes and play against NFL defences? I saw Wentz play several times last season for NDSU and didnt think he would be the first draft pick. Theres another reason why I dont like this monster deal with Tennessee: the Titans werent planning to get another quarterback. They already have a franchise quarterback in Marcus Mariota (although, frankly, they should do something about their offensive co-ordinator if they want to see the true greatness of Mariota), and they arent about to get rid of him. They could have made this trade with Cleveland or San Diego and still got a quarterback. It seems unlikely that Cleveland were going to draft a quarterback and San Diego had Philip Rivers and the no trade clause, which he had put in place after his contract extension in 2015.Unless the Rams are going to draft brilliant Ole Miss offensive linesman Laremy Tunsil because their offensive line isnt doing great (ranked 28th out of 32 in the Pro Football Focus rankings), this may be a truly terrible decision. Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers (4) – He had a strong game Sunday; was very good in tight with big saves on Crosby, Malkin and Neal in-crease. BERLIN -- Hoffenheim defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 in the Bundesliga on Sunday, handing the home side its eighth loss in nine games across all competitions, while Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Nuremberg 5-2 to ease its relegation fears. American defender Fabian Johnson crossed for Anthony Modeste to tuck the ball away in the 89th minute for Hoffenheim. The French striker pointed to the net in an apparent reference to the "ghost goal" scored by Stefan Kiessling in the sides last meeting, when the ball went through a hole in the sidenetting. Sead Salihovic put the visitors in front with a penalty in the 14th, after Roberto Hilbert handled in the area. Emir Spahic crossed for Kiessling to equalize with a header in the 39th, but there was an immediate brilliant response from Kevin Volland, who eluded Andres Guardado and lifted the ball over the Leverkusen keeper inside the far post. The home side equalized again through Simon Rolfes, set up by Lars Benders back-heel after Hoffenheim keeper Jens Grahl saved Guardados free kick. Modeste had the final say with his 10th goal of the season to increase the pressure on Leverkusen coach Sami Hyypia. Frankfurt earlier handed Nuremberg its fourth straight loss to leave the home side mired in the relegation zone. The visitors scored in the 21st minute when Stefan Aigner blocked Emanuel Pogatetz attempted clearance and crossed for Tranquillo Barnetta to score. Nuremberg was dealt a further blow when deffender Ondrej Petrak suffered a suspected broken nose and concussion after receiving Joselus elbow to the face in a challenge.dddddddddddd Nuremberg captain Raphael Schaefer suggested Joselu should have been sent off. "Its quite clear. Everyone can see it," the goalkeeper said. "Red card and we would have conceded two goals less." Aigner unselfishly set up Joselu in the 49th, and Alexander Madlung thought hed decided the game with Frankfurts third four minutes after that. "There was only fear in the first half. We played like a relegated team," Nuremberg coach Gertjan Veerbek said. But Josip Drmic scored the goal of the afternoon in the 64th, controlling Jose Campanas cross with his first touch and then firing high to far corner with his next, and Campana reduced the deficit further four minutes later with a shot from distance. Nurembergs revival was ended when Javier Pinola was sent off for bringing down Joselu as the last defender in the 80th. The Spanish striker decided the game on a counterattack in the 88th and set up Vaclav Kadlec for the visitors fifth in injury time. "The way I see it, we were lucky a red card wasnt issued (for Joselu). It would have been very close for us then," Aigner said. The result lifted Frankfurt to 12th, six points clear of Nuremberg and Hamburg in the relegation zone. "I got a sprain from celebrating. Incredible," Frankfurt coach Armin Veh said. ' ' '
